Kalliope X Style Guide

Please style your submission as follows.

Word Doc, 12 point, Times Roman, 1.5 spacing. Do not centre. Left justify only.

Body text only, no headings.

Use British/Australian spelling throughout. Example: ‘colour’, not ‘color’, ‘institutionalisation’, not ‘institutionalization’, ‘centre’, not ‘center’, and so on.

Travelling, not traveling.

World War One, World War Two. First World War, Second World War.

Single inverted commas for dialogue (‘ ’), double inverted commas for speech inside speech (“ ”). Example: ‘I love these gardens,’ she said. ‘He was yelling, “I’m the most powerful man in the world,” when the meteor crushed him.’

Italicise book titles, magazine titles, movie titles, TV series titles, names of ships. Example: Book Tirra Lirra by the River, magazine Sight & Sound, film Accatone, TV series Dix Pour Cent, ship Lucitania.

Song titles, album titles, titles of paintings in inverted commas. Example: Song ‘Walking in the Rain’, album ‘Aladdin Sane’, painting ‘Field with Cypresses’.

Nineteenth century, twentieth century – not 19th century, 20th century.

Numbers: spell out 1-10. One, two, three, four etc. Numerals from 10 onwards, 11, 12, 33, etc.

LGBT+

Indigenous, Aboriginal, Aborigines, First Nations Peoples – not indigenous, aboriginal etc.

Do not italicise foreign words.

Paragraphs full out; do not indent. One space between paragraphs.
