Submissions
Kalliope X is taking submissions for Issues 6 and 7
Between the following dates only:
1 January 2024 and 31 August 2024.
Note that for poetry, we are only accepting submissions for issue 7. Publication date November 2024.
Submissions received outside these dates will not be considered.
Please read the Style Guide before submitting work. Submissions that do not follow the Style Guide will not be considered.
Please submit only one complete story or essay at a time, or one document of no more than four poems. Multiple submissions will not be read.
We do not accept previously published work. Either online (in any form), or in print.

We encourage contributions in languages other than English, provided the piece is accompanied by an English translation.
Non-fiction
Essays and other non-fiction work must be around 2000 words.
Fiction
We accept fiction in all genres. We ask you keep submissions around 2000 words.
Poetry
Send up to four (4) poems in one Word document. We accept poetry in languages other than English provided that an English translation accompanies the piece(s). Please do not include your name or any identifying factors with the poem/s.
Reviews
Reviews must be under 1000 words. Supply high-resolution cover image, name of publisher, whether it’s paperback or hardback, book price, and number of pages.
Payments
We feel strongly that writers and contributors should be paid for their work. We strive to pay Industry rates; however we note that at the present time, our rates are not in line with those recommended by industry. We are in the process of obtaining funding for forthcoming Issues through grants and are unable to commit to an amount at this stage. This will be revised once funding is secured. To date, KalliopeX has been financed by the co-editors and generous contribution by donors, and by contributing writers who have kindly waived their fee to support this journal, for which we are most grateful. We strive to increase and pay author payments through sponsors, grants, and fundraising.
We will continue to pursue funding and sponsor opportunities however, in the interim, we are assessing our contributor payments issue by issue. All successful contributors will be advised at the time of acceptance if we are able to offer a payment and the amount.

Kalliope X is a not-for-profit, bi-annual literary journal run by dedicated volunteers.
Please consider supporting us with a donation. Or, if you’re in a position to further champion culturally and linguistically diverse literature, you may like to support our work with an ongoing yearly donation or sponsorship. All sponsorships will be acknowledged on our website.
Either way, your support will help pay contributors and cover administrative costs.
